With Camping World Truck Series going to Gateway Motorsports Park next year, NASCAR racing would also return in the St. Louis area that bred the likes of Ken Schrader and the Wallace brothers (Mike, Rusty and Kenny).
A productive event can keep Gateway on the chart to move up and finally get back its position on Nationwide Series calendar that it held from the year 1997 to the year 2010; before it was closed by Dover Motorsports, the former owner.
This weekend, Jim Cassidy, the NASCAR vice president of racing operations told that they were reintroducing stock car racing to the region. The 1st step in doing that is bringing back the trucks and making it the biggest and best event they could.
Now under Curtis Francois’ care, Gateway has been developing over the past year because of Francois’ redevelopments to the tune of US$ 11.5 million. He came in a lease for the chase in the year 2011 and after that he bought it directly in this last spring.
Since taking Gateway’a control, Curtis has tempted back the NHRA and has now been able to do very same thing with NASCAR. He said the Post-Dispatch that he anticipates the local people to back the CWTS program and a new Gateway.
Curtis Francois told that the supporters in this region good racing and the NASCAR truck series really bring it. They were doing all the things at the track to make it relevant in updating the facilities and to offer a good fan experience.
